Does this sound familiar?

Some things don't stay in the past on their own.

Trauma isn't just "in your head" — it lives in the body and shows up when you least expect it. Most people reach out when the old ways of coping stop working. If any of this lands, you're in the right place.

It still hijacks you

A sound, a smell, a moment — and suddenly you're right back there, heart pounding.

Nights aren't restful

Nightmares, broken sleep, or dreading sleep itself keep you from ever really switching off.

On-edge or shut down

You're either wired and watchful or numb and far away — rarely just settled.

"Why do I still react like this?"

You logically know you're safe, but your body hasn't caught up yet.

Avoiding the reminders

Places, people, or conversations you steer around — and a life that's quietly shrinking.

Carrying it quietly

You've kept it together on the outside for a long time, and it's worn you down.

You don't have to re-live it to heal from it. Good trauma work isn't about forcing you to recount every detail. We move at a pace that feels safe, and you stay in control of what we touch and when.

How trauma work happens here

Gentle, body-aware, and paced around you.

Trauma lives in the nervous system, not just the story — so we don't just talk it through. We work with what your body is holding, carefully and at your pace, so the past can finally start to feel like the past.

OEI (Observed & Experiential Integration)

A gentle, body-aware approach that helps the nervous system settle around difficult memories — without needing to re-tell every detail.

Somatic therapy

Because stress and trauma live in the body, not just the story. We work with what you notice physically, not only what you can put into words.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

Practical tools to notice the thought patterns driving anxiety, low mood, or avoidance — and to build steadier ones.

Dream & nightmare work

A specialised focus for recurring nightmares and disrupted sleep that often follow trauma, helping nights feel safe again.

What trauma counselling helps with

Where trauma counselling can help.

PTSD & complex trauma

Single events or years of it — including the "I've always been like this" kind.

Nightmares & sleep

A specialised focus on recurring nightmares and the disrupted sleep that follows trauma.

Flashbacks & triggers

Calming the body's alarm system so reminders stop hijacking your day.

After an accident or crime

Recovery following a motor-vehicle accident or a crime — often funded through ICBC or CVAP.

Childhood & old wounds

The early experiences that still shape how safe you feel today.

Support in Punjabi

Culturally aware trauma counselling in your language, when it matters most.

Counselling in your language

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿࠗਚ ਸ਼ਾਹ-ਮਸੁਾਾ

Trauma counselling in Punjabi, when it matters most.

Talking about the hardest things is difficult enough. Doing it in a second language — searching for words while trying to be understood — makes it harder. Joban offers sessions in Punjabi, so you can speak naturally about what happened and how it still sits with you.

Whether it's stigma at home, pressure between generations, or simply wanting a counsellor who gets it without a long explanation — you're welcome here.

Common questions

Trauma counselling in Surrey — FAQ

Will I have to talk about the details of what happened?

No — not unless and until you want to. Good trauma work doesn't require re-living every detail. We focus on helping your nervous system settle, and you stay in control of what we touch and when.

Is it too late to deal with something from years ago?

Not at all. Trauma doesn't have an expiry date, and it's never too late to work on it. Many people come in decades later — old wounds respond to care just the same.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis to start?

No. You can book a free consult directly — no doctor's referral or diagnosis required. Just reach out and we'll take it from there.

What happens in the free 15-minute consult?

It's a relaxed conversation, not a session. You share a bit about what's going on, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether we're a good fit. There's no cost, no commitment, and no credit card needed to book it.

Do you offer sessions in Punjabi?

Yes. Joban offers counselling in both Punjabi and English, so you can speak in whichever language feels most natural.

Are sessions in person or online?

Both. You can meet in person in Surrey or connect securely online from anywhere in British Columbia. [TO CONFIRM — whether virtual across BC is offered.]

Is counselling covered by ICBC or CVAP?

Often, yes. If you were in a motor-vehicle accident (ICBC) or affected by a crime (CVAP), counselling is frequently fully funded with no cost to you. Fine Line direct-bills both — ask during your consult and we'll help you find out if you qualify.

Can I use my extended health benefits?

Many extended health plans cover services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). You'll receive a receipt to submit to your provider. Check your plan for "RCC" or "Registered Clinical Counsellor" coverage.

How much does it cost?

Individual sessions are $145 for 50 minutes and $200 for 75 minutes, with sliding-scale spots available if cost is a barrier. The initial 15-minute consult is always free.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you're working through — there's no fixed number. Some people come for a few focused sessions; others stay longer. We'll figure out a pace and plan that fits you.

I've never done therapy before. Is that okay?

Completely. A lot of people who reach out have never spoken to a counsellor before. There's nothing to prepare — just come as you are.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. Sessions are private and confidential, within the standard legal and ethical limits your counsellor will explain up front.
